I’ll be without Internet access for a while, so blogging will be in snatches. Intermittent, much like the weather.

Let’s see what next week will bring. In the meantime, walk good, gentle people.

It’s that time again when we remember, honour, and celebrate the courage, faith, love, and strength of all those who have conquered breast cancer, and the many more who are pressing on forward in the fight to overcome.

Ladies, please remember to self-check your breasts regularly. I know I’m guilty of not being consistent. If the process is one that you keep putting off, get your partner involved. This type of sharing can only serve to deepen the bond and intimacy that both of you already share.

And if you haven’t already, remember to wear a pink ribbon during this month, as a symbol of the hope in your heart for a mother, sister, daughter, friend.

Now, I’ll definitely be getting rid of my land line, after being bowled over by this article. Likkle mos’ mi naily fly out o’ de chair.

Do you remember this one?

Where in the world were you on that fateful day? What were your thoughts? Your feelings?

I was living in Mandeville at the time. My house-mate’s frantic voice had urged me to hurry into the living room to watch the horror as it had unfolded on the television screen. Eight years later, the vivid images and sadness still haven’t been blunted by time.

Here’s to remembering the victims, the ones who sacrificed their lives trying to save them, and the brave families left to carry on with the void that has been left by their passing.

Now that all the excitement is over, and the Championships fever has subsided, life has pretty much returned to its usual routine. It seems that events like what happened at the Olympics and recently in Berlin are always a  welcome hiatus from life’s monotony.

Many lessons can be mined from the stages of each sporting event.  In finally winning a gold medal, after several past attempts, Brigette Foster-Hylton showed us that we should never give up on our dreams. When Delloreen Ennis-London leaped from eighth position to capture the bronze medal, she taught us that it’s not how you start sometimes, but the way in which you finish.  Asafa’s bronze win shut the mouths of his critics; later, as he helped to carry home the gold through united teamwork in the relays, he displayed persistence, while under the pressure of pain. And Bolt, so naturally free and laughing, showed us how we can be the same, even when those around us are gritting their teeth under pressure. Without these qualities, even with all their training and physical prowess, the athletes more than likely, would not have come close to their glorious achievements. So, too, in life, which requires perseverance, stamina, confidence, and mental acuity.

The question then, is how do we translate what took place on the track into our personal lives, and even further into each area and sector of national life? For, what good is it to glean several medals, to ride the wave of national camaraderie and unity for a few days, only to be bogged down once again by the crushing weight of national issues, such as crime, corruption, and economic chaos that plague so frequently?

Talk about being immortalized forever in history! Even the stones will speak of Bolt’s blistering performance in Berlin.
